  • Current Block of the Month:

    Jewel Box

Spectacular results with a super easy block to sew!

    broken image

    Jewel Box Block

    1. Sew two four-patch sections using light and medium fabrics. Your four-patch should be 5" square.

    2. Sew two half-square triangle blocks using light and dark fabrics. Your HST should be 5" square.

    3. Assemble the finished block as a larger four-patch as shown in the diagram. Your finished block should measure 9.5" x 9.5".

At the May meeting, we will have lots of pre-cut block kits in pretty blue and yellow fabrics (just like the picture in the newsletter!) for you to take home and sew. No measuring, no cutting ... just sit and sew!

  • Block of the Month

If you build it, we will quilt it.

    Scrappy Strips

Simple and quick ... make a bunch!

    Finished size: 12x.5" x 12.5"

    Cut:

    3 white strips:

    • 1.5" x 12.5"
    • 2.5" x 12.5"
    • 3.5" x 12.5"

Scrappy strips: Make strips from your scraps. They can be diagonal or straight --- just sew all those scrappy bits together.

    • 2.5" x 12.5"
    • 4.5" x 12.5"

Sew the widest white strip (3.5" x 12.5") to the widest scrappy strip (4.5" x 12.5").

Sew the skinny white strip (1.5" x 12.5") to the skinny scrappy strip (2.5" x 12.5").

Sew the last white strip (2.5" x 12.5") to the other side of the 2.5" scrappy strip.

Trim to square, and celebrate having been thrifty with your scraps!

    Patience Corner

Simple and quick ... make a bunch!

Our current BOM is the Patience Corner block.

    Cut:

    (4) 6-1/2" x 3" - fabric A

    (4) 4" x 4" - fabric B

    (4) 4" x 3" - fabric C

Make a unit of the block:

    • Sew fabric A to fabric B
    • Sew your AB patch to fabric C

That's it! Make four of these units and combine them to create your block. You can arrange the units in your block any way you choose. Make them in red, white, and blue and bring to the guild meeting or send them along with a friend if you can't make the meeting!
