    The secret of living is giving - Birdie Yager

    Acacia Quilt Guild of Orange County has a mission of promoting the art and knowledge of quilting while serving the community via philanthropic endeavors. We truly appreciate the generosity of our membership in giving so much time, effort, and money towards philanthropy. Many of us have experienced the love, warmth, and comfort that a quilt can bring! Our goal is to provide handmade items which bring joy to the recipient .

    Acacia through its philanthropy shares that love, warmth, and comfort with the local community. Each year, we donate hundreds of handmade items (including quilts, pillowcases, book bags, and Christmas stockings) to local charities such as Thomas House. Acacia also makes and donates quilts to Beds for Kids serving the San Carlos Apache Reservation in Southeastern Arizona. We are also delighted to provide quilts to the families of veterans, active military personnel, and other respected individuals residing in Buena Park upon request for commemorative events.

    We know that there are lots of groups out there doing great work in our community. We continue to seek organizations and other local charities that we might support. Some of the organizations we are considering to support include and the City of Buena Park Community Services, The Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park, Senior Care Centers, the Buena Park Library and Buena Park Youth Theatre. Our philintropic donations can be use as fundraisers which, in turn, would raise hundreds of dollars for these groups.

  • Kits, kits, and more kits!

    We've got them. People need them. It's a match made in quilting heaven.

    Acacia Members: Would you like to be more involved in philanthropy activities?

    We have a bunch of kits ready to go, and we'd love to get some of them to you for your sewing pleasure. There are many organizations in need, and completed items will boost our philanthropy efforts for this year. Acacia will distribute kits a the regularly scheduled general meetings on the 1st Thurday of each month. Currently, a pickup/drop and free sew day meeting happens every month on the 2nd and 3rd Saturday at Ehler's Event Center in the Picasso Room from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. If you're already planning on attending the free sew day, you're all set. We will have kits available for you to choose from!

    But ... if the pickup/drop-off meeting isn't convenient for you, you can still participate and help get these items finished! Just click here to fill out our handy form, and we'll take care of the rest!

  • 2026-2027 Projects

    Join us on July 18th or 25th for a free sew day workshop demonstrating some of the ways a quilt-as-you-go approach can be useful and beautiful. Contact Barbra Riley 562-416-2005

    Patriotic Project

    Acacia members will be working on collections of Red White and Blue handmaded items. These items will include wheelchair lap quilts, pillowcases, adult bibs, bags for walkers & wheelchairs and lap size quilts. . Our goal is to provide 250 handmade items to to be distriubted by November 2027.

  • Buena Park High School "Goat Coats" and "Sheep Shawls" Project

    It was brought to our attention in May that Buena Park High School's Agriculture teacher is in need of covers for the animals that are being entered in the Orange County Fair starting July 17th. Eight "Goat Coats" and 14 "Sheep Shawls" were requested. We have now completed 24 covers requested which were delivered July 14,2026.
    A special thanks goes to Phyllis Victor for creating patterns for the animal covers. The original covers we were given to use as a pattern for the goats turned out to be too large, so it took a second fitting to get it right. The Sheep Shawl fit the first time. And "thank you" to the BPHS agriculture students, who graciously allowed us to join them after school for the fittings.

  • Philanthropy Current News

    Delivery date TBD

    We will focus on strip, quilt-as-you-go quilts for the Apache Indian Reservation in San Carlos, Arizona. This is an ongoing project for the Acacia Quilt Guild.

    Come to the Saturday free sew days to work on this project.

    September

    We will be collecting placemats for the Buena Park Meals on Wheels. At this moment we are looking at making placemats twice a year – spring time and the holidays.

    September/ October

    We will be collecting 95 Halloween treat bags for the stu-dents of the George Key School in Placentia. Treats are NOT requested from Acacia as these are special needs students with a variety of medical conditions.

    November

    Christmas stockings will be filled with goodies donated by Acacia members for the December meeting. These items will be given to Thomas House and unfilled Christmas stockings will be presented to George Key School.

    December

    Filled Christmas stockings and pillowcases will be presented to Thomas House at our general meeting Holiday potluck.

    December

    At the December meeting the Ehlers Event center staff is given a “thank you” box of snacks and holiday treats in appreciation of all they do to make Acacia comfortable.

  • 2025-2026 Philanthropy by the Numbers

    200 + heart pillows

    Acacia Guild members will be voluntered for the Love Buena Park in 2025. We worked with the community group to sew Mastectomy Heart Pillows April 26, 2025. These were donated to Whittier Presbyterian Hospital, St Jude & St Joseph, George Key School, and other various organization.

    Delivery of quilts, fleece blankets and crocheted afghans to the Apache Indian Reseravation was completed in May 2025. This project is coordinated with In Gap Ministries where the beds are made in the carpentry workshop. Lots happy children are now able to choose their own quilts for their very own beds.

    Placemats for the clients of Meals on Wheels in Buena Park. Volunteers from the Ehlers Senior Ctr deliver the meals. The clients get to keep the placemats.

    Holiday stockings were provided to the special needs students at the George Key school in Placentia from Acacia Quit Guild. North Cities Quilt Guild of Placentia made another 40 stockings for the school. A total of 80 stocking were presented to school volunteer Linda Badillo at the AQG November general meeting.

  • 2025-2026 Projects

    Love Buena Park - Heart Pillows for Breast Cancer Patients

    On Saturday April 26,2025 some members of the Acacia Quilt Guild participated in the community event
    LOVE Buena Park Day of Service.

    This community event had volunteers sign up tosew Mastectomy Pillows. There were 65 volunteers that traced, cut, sew,
    finished and packaged the pillows. Approximately 600 pillows were made.
    The pillows will be donated to local hospitals and other organizations.

    Acacia Quilt Guild and members donated fabricfor the pillows. WE LEAD Buena Park donated 100 pounds of polyfill. The
    Church of Jesus Christ provided the location.

    Thanks to the members of Acacia that helped in this joint community event.

    Thomas House--in addition to providing housing for formerly homeless families, has a food distribution program.

    After the Tea & Quilt Auction in April, Acacia Quilt Guild donated 24 simple canvas and denim grocery bags to use for this effort. (36 were made to sell at the Tea, but only 12 sold.) Martha Figueroa, Operations Manager at Thomas House, sent a photo of some of the bags in use.

    The Children of San Carlos Apache Reservation Recieve Quilts

    In The Gap Ministries was given a batch of quilts in April 2026 from Acacia Quilt Guild of Orange County, CA. They are so grateful for our support and donations of quilts, sheets, etc. to #bedsofhope every year. They are a big hit with every recipient! #inthegap #itg
