Strips, strips and more strips! Here are the details!
This challenge is designed to use up some of the many fabric strips that Acacia has acquired; mostly 2-1/2" strips. Some of the strips are selvage to selvage, some are just pieces. You are not required to donate the results of your efforts, although another philanthropy quilt would be a bonus for the Thomas House folks. We hope that makers might choose to increase the number of quilts that we will collect in November to donate to Thomas House. Overall, we just want the fabric made into something useful!
The strips were grouped, 10 strips per bag, according to color. Some packs have 10 strips of the same color, some have eight of the same color and two of a similar color, and some have several different prints with a similar color. The packs of strips have been divided into two groups, light or solid colors that might be considered “background” and darker colors or prints.
At the September meeting, each maker will take three packets of 10 WOF strips (totaling 30 WOF strips), one from group “A”, which has pale or neutral strips, and two additional packets of your choice from group “B”. You are not required to use all the strips, just most of each grouping and you can add your own fabric to the strips taken for this challenge if you wish. Participants will choose in the order they signed up for the challenge ... so sign up early to have the most to choose from! If you aren't able to attend the September meeting, but you're local and you'd still like to participate, sign up and let us know. We will drop off your fabric.
Use any pattern you choose to sew your strips into a quilt. Not sure what to do with strips? Check out this post with a bunch of free jelly roll patterns.
In order to be eligible for prizes, a finished quilt, with a minimum size of 40" x 55", must be finished by the November Zoom meeting. A photo of the completed quilt (front and back) must be turned in by noon on November 4th, 2021. Participants can submit photos using the Gallery page form on the website, or email them directly to the webmaster.
Voting for the challenge winners will take place at the November meeting.
